Life is but a Netflix que....
Cable Girls
Cable Girls is a show whose plot revolves around the idea of female empowerment and the struggles women face during the misogynistic 1920s. The show follows four young women as they navigate life with all of its romance, family conflict, and friendships. This show is recommended by Lady Macbeth because of its focus on womanhood and the ability of women to show that they're as capable as men. She enjoys the focus on independence for women, especially during a period in which they were expected to stay subservient to men, as it's something she values herself.
American Horror Story
American Horror Story is a show whose seasons are all unique, dark, and mysterious. Lady Macbeth recommends Season 3- Coven- in particular because of its supernatural element. Coven follows a group of women living together in a Witch Academy, and explores the effects of their supernatural abilities on the world around them. Lady Macbeth loves the focus on women, as well as the inclusion of supernatural forces in a modern setting. One of the main characters in the show- Zoe Benson- struggles over the death of a boy because she feels responsible. Her grappling with grief is relatable for Lady Macbeth, which gives her another reason to enjoy the show.
How to Get Away with Murder
Lady Macbeth LOVES the strong female lead in this show, as well as the determination with which the crime is dealt with. Her favorite element is how professional Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) is in orchestrating the cover-up of a crime while simultaneously maintaining the facade of a resolute law professor. Lady Macbeth adores Davis's role in the show, and takes notes on how to be strong-willed in the face of crime. She loves that Keating is motivated by desire to maintain her successful position as a lawyer, as Lady Macbeth feels she can personally relate to a position with stakes so high.
Breaking Bad is a show that follows the story of Walter White as he transforms from a noble rule-follower into a corrupt meth manufacturer after simply following a desire to provide money for his family. The show displays the consequences of trying to achieve a goal through entanglement with dark temptations. This show is a secret favorite of Lady Macbeth's because it reminds her of her own husband, and how his one goal of becoming King ended up changing him into a person she no longer recognized. Walter White has to commit several unexpected crimes in his endeavors of maintaining control over his meth operations, which is another reflection of Macbeth to his wife.
I really liked all of these recommendations, specifically because some of them I hadn't seen anyone else recommend! I also did How to Get Away With Murder, but I really liked how you touched on the aspect of appearance vs reality with Annalise being lawyer supposedly preventing crime while actually committing crimes at the same time. I also like the point you made about Breaking Bad and how he was trying to corrupt someone like LMB can be analyzed to have corrupted Macbeth!
ReplyDeleteI really like your recommendation of Breaking Bad because I can totally see how Macbeth relates to Walter White. He is a good representation of someone who is a "good guy" that does the wrong thing, and then that action spirals into more. I also think American Horror Story is a good recommendation because it brings in the element of guilt. Good Job!
ReplyDeleteI think How to Get Away with Murder is a perfect suggestion! I've never seen it but based on your descriptions, the protagonist is so similar to Lady Macbeth. They both are trying to cover up a murder due to their ambition and simultaneously seem confident and professional regardless of guilt. I also like how your first show didn't have anything to do with murder. I think Lady Macbeth would enjoy a show that allows her to escape the dark and bloody events that happen in her life and simply focus on the empowerment of women. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog post! First of all your layout is really nice and great with the pictures. Your choice of shows are really good, and you brought up many good point and aspects of Lady Macbeth as a character. Furthermore your reasoning behind Lady Macbeth's recommendations are well through of! Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your blog post, Kayla. I also did Breaking Bad because of some similar reasons. Also, I like your section about How to Get Away with Murder because of the strong female character. I agree with you and think that Lady Macbeth would watch this show because of that same reason, not to mention it is about criminals trying to clear their past crimes. Dilly Dilly.
ReplyDeleteOh I really like all the shows that you chose!! I also chose How To Get Away With Murder and agree that the strong female role is something that Lady Macbeth values in that show. Your other selections were also interesting. You did a good job analyzing and explaining why Lady Macbeth chose these tv series.
